Man With Cottage In Muskoka Popular Again

For the first time since late last summer, Matthew Hastings, who inherited a cottage in Muskoka several years ago, has an active and vibrant social life.

“It was opening weekend and I had a lot to do to get ready,” Hastings said. “And suddenly I looked at my phone and it was just blowing up with text messages.”

Next weekend, Hastings has a reunion planned with all his old friends coming to stay the weekend at his cottage—plans he says came about spontaneously.

“I reached out to Matthew because it had been too long without us seeing each other,” Parker Fischer told the Alliston Gerald. “I said, ‘Listen, Matt, I’m sorry we haven’t connected since last summer and that I’ve technically not responded to your text messages, emails, and Christmas cards. Also, yes, I missed your birthday, your mother’s funeral, and never invited you to my wedding. That said, we have to get together. Any ideas?’”

Hastings reportedly received a number of nearly identical texts around the same time of night from other old friends.

“Someone was, like ‘Too bad we can’t go to your cottage up in Muskoka. I was like, ‘Oh, yes we can! We had to do something after that hilarious mixup last time. Last year, as we were packing everything in my motorboat for a day of fishing, they drove away without me! I was standing on the dock like, ‘Hello?’ Then, their phones couldn’t catch a signal all morning, so I prepped the barbecue. And then don’t even get me started on what happened that night with the lock on the sliding door. What a bunch of jokers!” Hastings remarked.

Hastings' ex-girlfriend had reached out to express her regrets and breaking up with him last Fall. At the time of publishing, Hastings' relationship had rekindled with the woman, who was now occupied with planning a girls weekend at the cottage.
